Holiday Greetings and What I've Been Up To Lately

This past summer, shortly after my last blog post, I made a purchase offer on a remodeled 1875 farm house. A few months ago I moved in. It's on a bank of Fish Creek in central New York. Below are some photos of my back yard.

If you look closely at the photo above, just on the edge of the near bank you might barely make out two geese -- one's white, the other is a typical Canada goose. The Canada goose has an injured wing, but the white goose remains its faithful companion. Sometimes they waddle up the bank and seek shelter near my garage. I'm delighted they feel safe on my property.

In case you're wondering, there is a connection between Fish Creek and Wood Creek, which I wrote about so enthusiastically in my post from July. Before the canal was built, the two small rivers joined together before emptying into Oneida Lake. More about this in future posts!

The joys, and lack thereof, of moving!

Central New York has some wonderful, historic cemeteries, and several of them offer tours, especially around Halloween. Most of the tours were canceled this year, but the Oneida Community in Sherrill, NY, still held theirs in October. It was a great opportunity to get out and enjoy some CNY ambience.

In September I was pleased to returned to my job as a middle school librarian after taking the previous school year off to help care for my dad. Students can still do research and borrow books despite the pandemic because lots of useful databases and collections of eBooks are online. I teach students how to find, evaluate, and apply these resources to their projects and for their own interest. Here I am in the library's little office/storage room this past Election Day.

Thanksgiving Apple Pie
The apple pie I made for Thanksgiving this year. Not gonna be modest -- it was amazing. My dad loved apple pie. I miss him.

Here's hoping we can all take the best parts of 2020 with us into 2021 and leave everything else behind. This is my deepest wish for all of you!

Happiest of Holidays and a Happy, Healthy New Year!
